Why would Apple task a CFO to head a legal department? Is
Apple legal so shallow it has no Deputy Counsel to serve interim? |

More likely no firm successor plan in place. You can nominate any second rank officer to take over as interim Counsel, but then if you don't make then official later, it is seen, for better or worse, as a black mark on their career.

Just perception. You got 'a promotion', then they 'took it away'. If I were a second line counsel, I wouldn't want the interim position unless it was pretty damned firm that I'd get it anyway.

Ah, demotion by attrition.
Gotta love management. The reason I asked was because in high school, I had a teacher who came in regularly, taught kids, gave out and graded homework, everything a regular teacher would do, yet he was classified as "substitute" for years. This was to circumvent benefits and other privileges, saving school a bit of money. Since he was a single young man, he didn't object to having a bit more cash in his pocket.
