Hi, about a year or so ago my old powerbook G4's fan stopped working and, as I didn't realize what was wrong, i didn't do anything about it. so after about a month my computer stopped running. it does turn on, but it doesn't recognize there is an HDD, and says there's a fatal error with it. so my question is this: if i buy an external hard drive and hook it up to the powerbook, could i easily install Tiger on it and run it so i can use my laptop again? or do i need an actual hard drive installed?

Have you run any hardware tests?

As long as there's nothing else wrong with your laptop, you can boot from a firewire hard drive. To install Tiger, just connect the drive and start from the Tiger DVD.
