Ok, so I have my first gen MacBook Air using Time Machine to back up to a Time Capsule.

I also have a BT Apple keyboard and BT Mighty Mouse connected to my MBA.

When my MBA goes to start it's backup, the connections get dropped and there is a sever lag in the movement of the mouse and the keyboard inputs.

The connections will go back and forth the entire time TM is doing it's thing, but will go back to normal once it's done.

Has this happened to anyone else? How can I fix it?

Thanks

Wow, this is a new one that I haven't heard of before.

How is the TM disk accessed? Via wired ethernet, firewire, internal disk, USB, wireless (time capsule), etc...

Do you have any applications running that are CPU intensive, such as Folding At Home, compressor, etc...

What version of the OS are you running? Have all patches, including firmware updates, been installed?

How new are the batteries in the wireless (BT) devices?

Time Machine is being done to a Time Capsule wirelessly (obviously haha)

It happens when I have a variety of apps running. Not running anything that intensive on my MBA anyways.

All updates, patches etc... 10.5.6

It has happened when the batteries are fresh and when they've been in for a bit.

I just don't know what to do about it. Very annoying.

Has it always done it, or did it just start to happen?

My first guess is that it is CPU load related. In the old days of modems, the cheaper modems used a lot of CPU power to decode the modem signals. If the CPU load was high while you were using the modem, the modem would drop the connection. I don't know if BT works this way, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Open activity monitor (apps/utilities) and watch the CPU load when TM kicks in and see if it spikes at or near 100%. I'll do a quick search on Apple's Service Source and see if there are any service notes about this issue as well.

Just for grins, try resetting your PRAM. I doubt it will help, but it removes an unknown from the debugging process.

Hmm... you are not alone with this problem. See: http://discussions.apple.com/thread....31120&tstart=0

There are a lot of BT updates in the 10.5.7 that is to be released in the very near future. There is hope that the update will fix the problem.

Good to know that I'm not the only one with the issue. Thanks for finding that thread.

It's been happening for a while, but I can't remember when it started. It's just gotten very annoying as of late.

Hopefully 10.5.7 fixes this issue.
