Hello,
I have a question about RAM that I can't seem to find the answer to. A co-worker is upgrading the RAM in his 1.5GHz PowerBook G4 from 1GB to 2GB, and will have the 2 old 512MB SODIMMs left over. I have a chance to grab one from him for $50 if I want it; the only problem is that I have a 1.2GHz G4 iBook, and that takes PC2100 RAM. Now, they're both 200-pin SODIMMs, so they're both the same physically, right? I'm just wondering if this is the same thing as when I used to put PC133 RAM into a computer with a 100MHz bus using PC100 RAM, and it worked just fine, albeit at the slower speed. I just don't know if DDR does the same thing as the PC133 RAM did - run at the slower speed. Another reason I am asking is that I see Crucial selling these PC2700 SODIMMs for $104.99, and the PC2100 SODIMMs for $137.99. If they're the same physically, just running at a slower speed, it's odd that they're $33 more. Supply and demand maybe? Anyway, this isn't for a week or so, I just wanted to try and find out if this would work ahead of time. Thanks a lot! |

As far as I know, if they are the same size, just a different speed, they will still work, though they'll be hindered to work at the slower speed. But at the same time RAM can be pretty picky, particularly notebook RAM, so the safest route would be for you to send that powerbook RAM to me, for free
