I have an office network with 5 macs (panther 10.3.8) and 2 pcs with windows 2000 connected to a dsl connection. At this time we are having a hard time accessing the contents of the pcs from the macs or vice versa. The pcs have been mostly isolated because the malware nightmare.

Is there any advantage to putting in box as a server for this network?

Thanks for your help.

Having a server would be useful if you planned on putting the files you want accessible by everyone on the server. I think you should be able to just go into System Preferences/Sharing and choose "Windows Sharing", without a central server. I do this right now when I go over to other mostly-PC networks.

Of course, there are a lot of other things you can do with a server. Printer sharing and firewalls just to name a few.
