Hey all

Wondering if anyone had any experience in replacing a logic board, or motherboard, whatever Apple calls it from a G4 flat panel iMac?

I was thinking of buying an iMac on the cheap with a blown MoBo and replacing it myself.

I'm an experienced PC builder, but never cracked open an Apple, so I'm not sure if this "logic board" contains the chip slot, etc. I'm pretty much in the dark about it.

Thanks for any help/suggestions

It isn't the hardest logic board to replace. You'll want to source the iMac repair manual from somewhere though.

You take out the screws at the base, flip the iMac over (leaving the logic board flat on the ground), disconnect the modem and all the cables, unscrew the logic board, and lift it out.

It contains the CPU, chipset and graphics.

Apple recommends using thermal paste when you put it back together.

That's the key with an iMac G4...where to get the logic board. You can't use anything other than a logic board specifically designed to work with the iMac because it's round. So you'd have to buy a round iMac G4 logic board, your best bet would be just to try and pick up a working model off of eBay or smalldog.com.

Wow.

That user name doesn't scream spammer at all.

Nor does bumping a thread that's over three years old.

Nor does not knowing how to spell iMac.
