So I've got a birthday coming up next month, and I need to come up with some things to ask for. The problem is, I don't need anything, and I can't even think of something that I really want. I mean, I have a loving wife, terrific kids, and I'm healthy - the only thing I can think of is getting myself a used scooter for those trips that I take every week to the old folks with disabilities home where I volunteer so that I can burn less fuel and help the environment, while still giving to those less fortunate than I am. (if that worked Carol, please e-mail me those pics to murbot at hotmail.com. thanks)

There has to be something cool out there for a couple hundred bucks or less. I might consider getting a 17” LCD for my Power Mac, but that’s really the only thing my fuzzy brain can come up with. Oh, well I did see the first season of Robot Chicken on DVD, and that would be pretty cool.

Let’s have some suggestions! If you had a couple hundred bucks burning a hole in your pocket, what would you buy? Don’t say beer, because obviously I don’t need an excuse to buy the sweet nectar of the gods. Heeeeyyyy… a Calgary Flames bar fridge for beside my armchair… the ideas are already starting to flow.

Suggestions from $5 to $300. GO!

Do you have a nice stereo? If not, you could start putting together one. Or you could build your own speakers if you wanted. GR Research makes some cool kits for things like that. Or build a subwoofer if you don't have one, since those are very easy to build.

Lots of options.

Donate it to charity. Adopt a child through something like PLAN. That would up the chance of getting those pictures even more.

Basically speaking if you don't need or want anything, give it to the less fortunate.

I'll maybe looking for a wii... After I tried it and see if it's worth it. Maybe a good idea if you don't got one.

Or something made in Quebec like euuhhh... Something special that you only can find in Quebec like... Damn I don't know, we don't do anything special here

Quebec...you could get poutine.
A big hunk of smoked meat from either Ben's or Schwartz's.
...I was gonna suggest strong Quebec beer (like Maudite or something) but nebbermind, you said you don't need an excuse for that one.

well, if it was me and I had $300 to blow, Id prolly go for booze and drugs. If you want something more conventional and you have no idea what to get, why not get a savings bond or invest it?

$200 Canadian? Maybe a couple of beers?

Seriously, the exchange rate sucks right now - not good when I have money in a Canadian account that I'm using in the UK. 2.3...something. Ouch!

Invest it. You won't miss it if it turns out badly, if it does well you could be on the road to something big. Makes sense.

There's my usual, sensible answer to this sort of question when asked by various 'Nova members. But having it be murbot just changes all the rules, huh? The things I could suggest...we'd be here for hours, and I'd probably get banned on "unhinged perv" grounds.

But I'll be good.

Might I suggest a Ferris wheel franchise?

That reminds me so much of a series we have in the UK [that I still watch] called Chucklevision, starring two brothers - Paul and Barry Chuckle. They always begin an episode by answering the phone in the most nonsensical, brilliant fashion: "What's that, Dan, you want us to run the abandoned theme park for the weekend?", or "What's that, Dan? Our Uncle left us an underground lemonade factory in his will?", etc.

I don't know why I'm still typing.

I too have a serious issue with saving petty cash. My money does not last long at all and this may pose a problem in the future.

In the mean time... Wiiiiii!

maybe a puppy if you're ready for that

i'm usually in a similar boat...family can never figure out what to buy me as i have a bad habit of getting myself things i really want

300$ of poutine ?!?

Maudite(8%) is pretty good. The same company make that one called "La fin du monde" (The end of the world)... 9%. She's better ! Also La Trois Pistoles(9%) La fringuante(10%) La Terrible(10,5%)

That's what I call beer !!!

Buy your wife an uninterrupted day at the spa... Nothing takes better care of a man than a well taken care of woman!!!

Of course, you could probably just get some of those 1,000 thread count combed Egyptian cotton sheets in the color of her choice and ask her to help you break them in!

$200 to $300 is almost enough to get a new gun. (I don't recall if you like or dislike them at the moment.)

Start a Clamshell fetish.

This is a stab in the dark, but seeing as you live in the frozen wonderland that you do, I figure I'll give it a go! Besides, I'm pretty sure all the guys have the gadget genre covered. Buy yourself the ultimate bathrobe. Little Giraffe and Barefoot Dreams make some reeaally nice ones for about that much. (Yes, they have 'manly' ones; you just have to look a little!) They are so incredibly soft and inviting, that they virtually demand to be touched! (Once again... Could come in handy! ) They also have some fantastic blankets.
