Dear all,

An weird thing has been happening for the last couple of weeks although there is no fixed scheduled nor special event (app running, background tasks, ...) that seems to trigger what happen.

Suddenly, without any notice, the iMac shuts down, the power light blinks for a while and then the iMac starts again and bring me to the login page where I select the account and type the account password.

Then all is ok for a day, a week, or ... 1 minute, before it goes again.

Sometimes after shutting down and restarting, instead of showing the "login page" it stays stuck to a screen where I have a folder icon with a question mark flashing inside it. At this stage I do not know what to do.

Anyone has experienced this or know what it might be ?

Many thanks
Nicolas

Sounds like the machine is suffering a momentary power loss. It could be the powersupply, but there is another possibility. Do you have any brownouts in your area at all?

Check the RAM is seated properly, too - I've had three machines die in that kind of pattern and re-seating the RAM (making sure it REALLY is pushed in as far as it will go) has solved the problem.

Just a thought!
