Hi , Im not sure if this is the right forum for this but if not could a mod move it please?

I just wanted to ask what is the best format to encode movies in before I add them to DVD Pro 4? Id like to minimise as much as possible the amount of encoding that DVD Pro has to do when creating the DVD. Or is there a format that DVD Pro doesnt have to encode/re-encode at all?

Sorry for what are perhaps silly questions but Im a recent switcher and also only just started using DVD Pro.

Many thanks for the help.

Moved it to GD as you weren't getting many bites in the GB.

I always use Mpeg2 for my stuff. Straight out of compressor. But i guess it depends on what format you are starting with. I edit in Final Cut and then export using Compressor, then import that into DVDSP. Hope this helps

Hi - thanks for the response but Im afraid youve lost me already Most of my files are in either avi, mov or wmv with only a few in mpeg.
Could you recommend what I should do with these formats?

Thanks

Ok i generally convert mov files to mpeg2 to work with them in DVDSP. I have final cut which lets me export using a program called compressor. But if you can't use that you can get ffmpegx i think it's called, and that will convert mov files to Mpeg2. I'm pretty sure this is right. I could be off though, i don't use any other program to do this.

Not sure if this will do wmv or avi though. Hopefully someone else will be more helpful than i was.

Thanks again for your reply I'll give compressor a try - I have ffmpegx too so hopefully I should be able to do it with one of them. Actually wont ffmpegx convert avi to mpeg? It should I think?
