Chaps/Chapesses

Has anyone heard the change in required specs from high end G5 to slightly lower for Doom 3

# Operating System: Mac OS X 10.3.6 or later
# CPU Processor: PowerPC G4/G5 or later
# CPU Speed: 1.5GHz or faster
# Memory: 384 MB or higher
# Hard Disk Space: 2.2GB free disk space
# Video Card (ATI): Radeon 8500 or better
# Video Card (NVidia): GeForce FX 5200 or better
# Video Memory (VRam): 64 MB or higher
# Media Required: DVD Drive

Is what is posted on Aspyre.. Looks like my 17" 1.5Gh Pbook might stand a chance (at the low end)

I have seen those specs before but did'nt know that they had changed from a higher requirement. Sadly I have a 1.25 PB so I'll have to wait for the X-Box version. When it's released and you test it out post the results I'm interested in how well it performs on the low end.

Rubbish! Lets you and me creak along at 21fps with all settings to "Highest Performance"!

I'm down as long as the I.V. of Dramamine lasts.

Someone actually got Doom 3 running on a pair of SLI Voodoo2 cards, and actually got it running at around 20-40 fps. Of course he's backing it up with a 2 GHz Athlon, and it's not rendering any of the really demanding stuff, but it's still impressive for such an old card.

Check it out (56k warning):

Looks like Doom 2.5 or something.

Games with poor frame rates, Duke Nukem' especially, give me awful motion sickness. LINK

It runs acceptably on my 1.3GHz Duron with a Radeon 8500. However, two caveats:
  • You'll want 512MB of RAM.
  • The Duron, despite costing all of £26, is a floating point beast. I'm not sure if Altivec can save the G4.
