Well Jordan Sparks (sp?) version of the National Anthem was perhaps the best I've ever heard..... I'm REALLY impressed.
And the Dell commercial? WTF?? |

The XPS One. LOL. Dell comes in pretty my ass. Why must every attempt at beautiful include glossy black and bright blue LED crap? Hello? I do not need to be distracted by neon LEDs when I am working! Did anyone catch all the football players reading the declaration of independence before the game? To be honest I was a little weirded out. The tone and all the talk about government becoming destructive just kind of freaked me out. What Adobe Updater‽ What‽ What‽ WHAT‽ |

Why would Mercedes spend 3 mil for a commercial and not have it in HD? "What's a Canadian farm boy to do?" |

The "Iron Man" commercial was neat. I think that was new.
Looking forward to Petty at halftime (the only reason I've got this ridiculous thing on...it's back to the Puppy Bowl after the halftime show). I think it's wonderful they're putting on a real band that people actually give a rip about. I just don't see how they made that call with all the other crap surrounding this. If an event ever screamed "An All-Star Salute to American Idol featuring KISS, the Cast of 'Grease' and Jessica Simpson", it's the Super Bowl. What clueless, ballsy intern managed to get the powers-that-be go for such a twangy old fart as Petty and the boys? Amazing...and encouraging. |

Life Water - WTF?
Yeah, that was a new Iron Man commercial - and a lot less interesting than the trailer, unfortunately. |

American Girl
Even the Losers Free Fallin' Jammin' Me Impossible, I realize (except for maybe "American Girl"). Those are just a few of my favorites. I want him to rock, and keep it fast and snappy and not do something all dirge-y like "Into the Great Wide Open" or "Last Dance With Mary Jane". People will fall asleep or turn the channel. He could stick in a cool cover...Byrds or Dylan. I figure he'll do two bonafide hits, one WTF? and something kinda cool and funky. I just hope he wears a funny hat, plays a Rickenbacker and is completely unintelligible. That's the Tom Petty I know and love. I will predict this: 72% chance of "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" with Stevie Nicks, who is, I believe, a resident of Arizona (or once was)...it almost makes logistical sense. A little two-for-one bonus (and still a cool song after 20-plus years). Kinda curious to see what he looks like. The past couple of times I've seen him, he's kinda scared the shit out of me, looking a bit skeletal and freakish with his long, stringy undertaker hair and pallor. Maybe he's eaten and found a barber since. |

Is there a place where I can see this online? I'm not going to a bar and I still won't get cable...I'm jut wanting to see the commercials and halftime show.

Just thought of something else Petty might do (because he doesn't strike me as the "push the new stuff only" type - it's not as though he's some "American Idol" weinee with his first album coming out in two weeks - plus he's a fan and student of rock and roll)...wouldn't surprise me a bit if they did a cool Buddy Holly song ("Not Fade Away", etc.) Heartbreaker style...
Today's February 3, after all...the day the music died. Hmmm. If I'm Petty, I make one of my songs a Holly tune, just because. I'm sure he's at the point in his career where he could do whatever he wanted, and wouldn't be dictated to like, say, Clay Aiken or one of these country dorks with two singles to his name. |

They had an interview with him on the Fox Pre-Game, He said "we got 12 Minutes, no time to mess around."
So I think that means no to anything new or esoteric, besides their new record doesn't come out till summer. The stage is cool, it's a flying V. "What's a Canadian farm boy to do?" |

Oh that's cool...he might just be looking to come out and lay 3-4 good, popular crowdpleasers on us. I got no problem with that!

Pre-recorded and edited (for time) versions of songs. Just like the National anthem was pre-recorded.

Best commercials so far for me have been:
Bud Lite / Breathing fire. Audi R8 / Old luxury just got put on notice. Fed Ex / Carrier pigeons. |

The Petty thing sounded live/real to me.
They sounded good. Much better than the Stones a few years ago. The funny/ironic thing is that the three of the four songs he sang were off his "solo" album, Full Moon Fever, which wasn't a full-on Heartbreakers album (even though they all played all over it). "American Girl" was the only true TP/Heartbreakers tune. I thought that was kinda funny. I was thinking that might be the case, since he had so many huge hits from it (that are all still popular radio staples, as much as any of the Heartbreakers stuff). I was happy to hear "Free Fallin'". I always thought that was a beautiful song, the words and imagery, and that swirling jangle it wraps you in. Oh, and I got one of my wishes...he played that cool Rick for two songs. |

While I have a couple of screaming kids in the house, I thought Tom was singing. Saw no signs of lip syncing from him. Guitars sounded live, Tom was live. Drums were live. Not sure what you saw Drew.
Missed the Anthem. Can't comment on that.... Different Strokes, for Different Folks. And So On and So On, and Skoobie Doobie Doobie. |

Campbell's guitar solo on American Girl was live. The endings were loose, it was live.
