I could not fucking believe this story when I read it.

Quote:
The chimps chewed off most of Davis' face, tore off his foot and testicles and dragged him down the road. Davis was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he had surgery late Thursday night.
WTF?.

Just another reason to never go to the zoo ever again.

EDIT: You might need a bugmenot for the site:

Oh yeah. All the other primates are fricking strong, we're the weaklings. Strong as in 'more motile power per cubic centimeter of muscle tissue', not muscle mass or even relative strength. A chimp can rip your fucking arm off, man. Literally.

Holy shit. Think about how hard it would be to pull a foot off of someone. Christ, even if they're already dead, tied to a table, and you had all day to do it.

That is some awesome fucking power.

Note to self: Update living will. Add a Do Not Resuscitate order in the event that I have my face, testicles, and a foot removed in the same day.

Maybe I need to NOT get a powerbook and instead, get a .357 Colt Python Elite with a 6 inch barrel ... TWO even ... for the Great Chimp Wars brewing on the horizon.

Now you know what chimps in the zoo are thinking about. You'd be pissed off, too, if your only recreation was picking nits off your cellmate.

Actually, I consider this Humans 4 Chimps 1, after all we did kill the chimps and take their women.

I don't think that most people know/knew that chimps begin to be really, really dangerous once they're grown. Even the folks making the Johnny Weismueller versions of 'Tarzan' had problems with their chimps. They're all cute and roller-skatey when they're young, but when they hit that age, 24-25, their muscles wave a little red flag and suddenly they turn into nasty bastards.

The closer you get to humans within the primates, the more violent you become.

OMG has anyone noticed that this is exactly like the movie where Mamie Van Doren goes on the spaceship and then the computer tries to kill her but then she comes back and then the apes have taken over earth?!?!?!?!

I would get mad at monkeys, but the ones that use the computers to talk to scientists are sooooo cute!

For most of my life I lived just a block away from this couple. I never really met or knew them, but I understood that they were very devoted to Moe, the chimp, that they were visiting.

Moe was incarcerated after an incident about 5 or 6 years ago where he bit Davis while he was giving him a bath, and promptly started a chase that ended when they shot him with tranquilizers (I think he bit off an animal controller's finger in the process). I remember riding by on my bike and seeing the signs children had left urging the city to release Moe. Even now he still maintains signs that say "FREE MOE THE CHIMP!" He even ran for city council a few years back, I believe, in part, to allow Moe to come home (his signs had the caption "Moe's Father").

I just thought I might chime in with that. He and his wife were wholly devoted to this chimp. They very much loved him. And after reading the articles about the attack. I have to agree that the other chimps were probably just jealous of the love and devotion they gave Moe when they visited. I just hope the attack doesn't changes his opinion of chimps After all, they're really just babies, I mean, they have the mental capacity of a 3 year-old.

Yes, a 3 year old WITH A GUN.

There's a reason we don't give 3 year olds weapons... chimps have them built in.
