ON my iBook G4 12" I can no longer use the arrow keys to navigate around text. It is not such a biggie as I also have a mouse but nevertheless it is a bit annoying that something is not working properly.
I have an extended warranty but I do not have easy access to an Apple Centre and do not think it is worth the bother to start a warranty claim on this issue. Any ideas on how I could fix this myself? Thanks. iBook 12" 1.33GHz G4 1GB 60GB OS X 10.4.11, iPod Nano 8GB 2G, Canon Ixus Digital 40 |

The iBook keyboard sometimes gets a little out of joint, especially around the arrow keys. Try pressing the keys very firmly indeed while observing whether they respond, and listen for a "click" that will be audible as they re-seat (if they were out of place).
Obviously try rebooting if you haven't done that yet. Heck, for good measure, repair your permissions (in Disk Utility), zap the PRAM as described here and reset the PMU as described here. These things won't do any harm even if they don't fix the problem. If the keys still don't work after this then definitely get Apple to fix it. I highly doubt they'll renege on the matter. … engrossed in such factional acts as dreaming different dreams. |
