My friend has a problem with his e-mac. Sometimes when he starts his mac up, he gets a white screen and has to type either "mac-boot" or "shut-down". If he types shut-down and reboots holding command-option-R-P he goes into OS X. He checked on apple help and its something to do with repairing permissions but neither of us really understand it. Any help??

That's the OpenFirmware screen. Its similar to a PC's BIOS menu.
I'm not sure why he's getting it periodically, though. |
