I was open the zip file but nothing show up and every-time open zip file I lost about 100M of my hard disk space. Everything started acting funny safari quit, console hang, clam x hang, and every application I try to open hang. I restart my Macbook and it shows disk space of 4G that I have 18G before that. I am able to open the zip file now, and able to use Disk utility to test MacHD that shows noting wrong. My Mac HD is 74G with 69G use, but I check Application, Developer, Library, System, and User folders which add up to about than 53G. It should shows 13G of free space, so I wander where my 10G gone to. I do not have MacOX dics start up with me ( I am in another country now), and I try UI disk already. I restart couple times already. Thank

Thank for the Disk Inventory X. I found out that windowserver_last.log is almost 15G, so I delete it. windowserver_last.log shows log file repeat over and over again. I have to check in the future when it bigger what cause it to be that huge. It is just a log file, so it should not be that big unless it keep repeat stuff right that. I suspect it is Neooffice 2.1 I install last night, but I have to check later. Thank for all the help.

Unfortunately, that's actually a known bug. Not very common, but if you do a web search, you'll find all sorts of huge logs with this name. 12, 13, 15, even 65 GBs worth of logs.

I ran into that while beta testing some software once. If I remember correctly, it was writing a log at something like 100Mb an hour.
Filling your start-up disk should be avoided. I'm glad you got the help you needed so fast. There are great folks on this forum. |
