i posted on here a bit ago about my mac mini. the support line warrenty just came up but i still have a parts warrenty. the main system prefs wont come up and theres no clock in the upper right hand of the desktop. a cd was stuck for a week or so but popped out and now the burner wont work. when i put in a cd the message: "you have inserted a disk containing no volumes that mac os x can read. to continue with disk inserted, click ignore." if i click ignore it nothing happens and if i click eject...well it ejects. i've already tried repairing permissions and am wondering if i should try formating the hard drive. im new to macs so any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Sorry no one has replied to you yet. You may want to try and delete your caches as well. Go to your home folder, library, caches, and than delete everything in that folder. And I mean everything. Don't worry, you're not dumping any mission critical stuff there. However, do make sure that you're in the library within your home folder, not the library that's just in your hard drive.

Next, you may want to try repairing your disk or doing a file system check. Instructions on how to do that are in this thread.

How about warranty service? Lots of folks seem a bit worried about checking their mac in for warranty repai. Do it! But check it in to an Apple Specialist. The Apple Store seems intent on convincing you that the problem is yours. An Apple Specialist will be happy to take a quick gander under the hood!
