At this point Apple feels more and more like every other computer maker, throw something at the wall and see if it sticks. Will there be a iMac Pro with a big screen? Who knows, and why wait three plus years after the transition started to do it?

As for M3, I do wonder how development is going. Is there much left to pull out of ARM, given the power limits? Over the last two or three years some of the key big names in Apple’s Soc team have left. I wonder how that is going to affect things going forwards?

Glad to see the 13" MacBook Pro was discontinued and replaced with a better option: 14" M3.

However, they sure could have given the base model some more RAM.

You're not wrong. Short little vid within the article is a fun watch.

Just saw this at MacRumors. Take it with the biggest grain of salt you can find, because they’ll probably unveil it next week.

Apple claims there’s no AS 27” iMac coming.

They can say this and not lie because it’ll be 30-32”. I’d buy it a little easier if they said no larger iMac was coming. They only said “no 27””, which is easy to say if they know they’ve got a 30” in the lab.

So what they say is true…from a certain point of view.

For a company that, historically, “never comments on unreleased products”, this is either huge, important news to some folks here OR the biggest BS smokescreen/misdirection possible and an iMac larger than 27” is coming within 2-3 months.

Sounds like 24” is the iMac size for the foreseeable future. Blah, blah…until it isn’t.

Just remember: they weren’t going to make larger iPhones, or smaller iPads, either. They can do whatever they want and they don’t have to clue us or the media in one bit. When have they ever?

For customers who want a larger desktop solution, Apple recommends pairing its 27-inch Studio Display with a Mac Studio or Mac mini.
Yeah, no shit. I bet they do! At about half a gazillion dollars more, I’m sure they’d love everyone to go that route!

“In fact, don’t even consider the 24” iMac. We actually meant to discontinue it last week! Couldn’t you people tell, after 2.5 years of no updates, kinda how we view the thing? Hellllooooo?”

This to me, is a positive development.

Jobs the showman is long dead. Waiting on a 'one more surprise' every 18 months has been over for awhile.

If Apple feels the Studio + Display is their replacement for the larger iMac, it is great that they finally came out and said so.

Yes, but, well…

"The company is instead focusing the iMac line around the 24-inch model that was first released in early 2021 and just updated with the new M3 processor this fall.

Apple PR representative Starlayne Meza confirmed the company’s plans to The Verge. The company encourages those who have been holding out hope for a larger iMac to consider the Studio Display and Mac Studio or Mac Mini, which pair a 27-inch 5K screen with a separate computer, compared to the all-in-one design of the iMac."

This is true, and my favorite example is when they said one year that a video iPod makes no sense, then made a video iPod the next year. Did they have an internal change of heart? Did Jobs know all along the video iPod was coming, but it wasn't ready, so he downplayed its usefulness? We'll never know.

But… I dunno. The current Mac line-up makes a lot of sense to me, so while it's certainly possible that Apple decides to make a big iMac after all, I think people are grasping at a straw that isn't there. Yeah, they might also make a touchscreen Mac. What's the actual basis for the assumption that a big iMac is coming, other than that they used to have one? They also used to not have the Mac Studio!

Given my current quest to upgrade my system and seeing the issue with thermal dissipation from the mini vs the Studio it would make sense that they wouldn't try to cram that cooling into the case of an iMac. It doesn't seem like it would be to difficult to accomplish good cooling with more than 30" of lateral distance to spread out fins... but I'm guessing they don't want the bubble back look anymore and it has to be paper thin still I'm sure.

So making the push for a Studio and Display make sense for now.

…I always disliked that look. It was one of those Phil Schiller saying "look how thin it is" and me being like "yeah, but at what cost?" moments. Rather deceptive design.

I suppose they could make the chin taller, but that doesn't look so great either.

So instead, they could separate the screen from the base, iMac G4-style, and… at that point, why not make it two separate devices… (The sunflower iMac looked great, but it's much easier to accomplish with a 15-inch display than a 30-inch one.)

I think we’ll see a new, larger iMac by summer 2024. Based on all the same thing all my other beliefs/predictions are based on…”just because”.

And, whenever they’ve said they’re not gonna do something or they have no bterest in a particular product, one shows up about 4-6 months later.
