We got Thunderbolt 5 today. So the new iMac, with Thunderbolt 4, is now guaranteed.

Basically as rumored.

It’s now PCIe 4, not 3. So, also not 5. Which I find a bit odd. PCIe 6(!) is already finished as of last year, so why derive from something so old? Are there technical constraints, or is this more of a project management mess-up?

(I don’t even want to get into “USB4 v2”.)

I must be learning.

That it wasn't PCIe 5.0 was actually the first thing that occurred to me (only because I remember reading that 'PCIe 5.0 SSDs were on the verge of hitting the market' a few months back.) And when I saw the reference to USB4 v2, I thought that at least the Thunderbolt guys understood product naming.

Has anyone considered that Apple and Intel engineers in the USB consortium could be subtly and deliberately prodding the other PC guys to mess up their own standard branding, in order for Thunderbolt to gain more acceptance?
