howto change/mute system sounds (volume up/down 'bloob')?

I have searched the threads, could only find stuff about the start up chime, but I am looking for something else:

I basically really want to turn of the "bloob" that you hear whenever you change the volume on the macBook: just before a show I sometimes play music from either my macBook or iPod or both, and it is quiet silly when you hear "bloob bloob" coming out of the speakers at full volume in a room full of people..
there are also some other system sounds that I'd like to change, even though right now I can't remember which, I'll know when I encounter them again..

so for now: is there anyway to get rid of the volume up/down bloobing?
and maybe later: are there any other system sounds that can be changed?

thanks, eric.

There's no easy way to change the sound. If you want to change it, you need to overwrite a protected file in the /System folder. It's located here:

/System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin/Contents/Resources/volume.aiff

However, you can disable it easily. System Preferences -> Sound -> "Play feedback when volume is changed". Also, holding the shift key while pressing the volume keys will temporarily toggle this option.

It's one of the first settings I change when I get a Mac in my hands.
