Anyone know how the 160GB 7200 RPM and the 250GB 4200 RPM hard drives for the 17" macbook pro compare in performance? I would really love the extra space of the 250GB drive, but I am worried that it would not fast enough for FCP, Aperture and Logic.

(edit: MB to GB -- my mind is jello today.)

Not like this. Not like this...

In my experience. A 4200RPM drive is suicide.

Also, I assume you mean GB. 250MB wouldn't be enough to hold OS 9 comfortably let alone OS X.

Don't go 4200. I just had one in my previous MBP and it was terrible for the applications you mentioned.

Thanks, I will stick to the faster 160GB drive.

It's sad that Apple choose the cheaper (for them) 4200RPM drives over the faster (and thinner) 5400 rpm drives that Fujitsu also makes.
