Can anyone please post the measurements of the G5 iMac main unit, without the foot stand?

Planning to remove the foot for travel, so I need to know if it will fit in my carry-on.

17" and 20" please, if you can. (I know the new ones are a little thinner, but the old measurements will be good enough for me to work with.)

Thanks a lot!

* Height: 43.0 cm (16.9 inches)
* Width: 42.6 cm (16.8 inches)
* Depth: 17.3 cm (6.8 inches)
* Weight: 7 kg (15.5 pounds)4

Size and weight (20-inch)

* Height: 47.2 cm (18.6 inches)
* Width: 49.3 cm (19.4 inches)

It seems like those must include the stand, since I'm pretty sure the body of the iMac isn't 7-8" thick. More like 3-4". The height and width, though... they seem like they might be for just the body. The numbers seem to indicate that it's basically a square. I figure you take a 16:10 widescreen display, add a chin that would make Jay Leno envious, and you basically have a square. That is, 16 units of width and 10 units of height... the chin's height is very roughly half of the display's height, so that translates to (again very roughly) 16:16, or a square.

By the way, I'm not sure if the foot of the iMac can still be removed. According to a review of the iMac G5 VESA mount adapter, posted to Apple's own site,

Quote:
Be aware that this works only with the original, flat-backed iMac G5. It does not work with the second generation curved-back iMac G5 model.

This is an informational note only, not a product analysis or quality comment.
So as you can see, there's unofficial information that seems to say that the new iMac is incompatible with the old VESA mounting kit. Apple does not mention whether it has a removable foot or not, nor do they make any mention of official compatibility with the kit. I am hesitant to trust a review posted by an anonymous persona, but it's best not to assume that it will work. You might try http://discussions.info.apple.com/ for more information.

EDIT: Looks like you were already there.

Off the top my head, I think the depth size for the 17" iMac is 1.9 inches, while the 20" is 2.1 inches, sans foot (which I don't believe is detachable, but I wouldn't swear to it). I have just given my 20 incher (iMac, that is) a measure: sans foot it is approximately 17" wide and 16.5" top to bottom (19", including foot).
