TIA

You could give iPhoto 6 a shot; I doubt that would give you the level of control a dedicated calendar program would, but it's worth having a play around with.

iPhoto has a great built in calendar maker. You can also have the order printed properly and sent to you.

The calendar is for work. Instead of very impersonal printed Christmas cards from the boss, this year we are going to photograph different departments and put a calendar together. Something a bit more memorable.

So it needs to be fairly proffesional, as it is going out to over 1000 people. Price shouldn't be too big of an issue.

I will have a look at iPhoto. But i think from memory it doesn't allow for as much control as i would like.

Thanks!

The standard calendar themes in iPhoto 6 may not be the cutting edge of graphic design, but they're far far better than the dross you get bundled with a lot of cheap programs. I call it the MS Publisher/ ClipArt Syndrome

Agreed. The iPhoto calendars are WAY better than any I've ever seen from apps specifically made for making calendars, and you can have the iPhoto ones professionally printed (or you can save them as a PDF to print and distrbute yourself).

I'd definitely go with iPhoto.

For over 1000 people, iPhoto professional printed won't be cost effective. I'd suggest going to a printer and getting one properly made.

Farenheit - Trav is in Australia and I don't think they (we?) have that capability. I'm almost certain he would be sending this to a professional printer.

BUT he could still use iPhoto to design the calendar and give the printer the PDF if he doesn't like whatever basic options the printer has.

That's what I said didn't I? (To clarify: yes, use iPhoto to design the calendar - but he'll have to get the printing done by a professional print company.)

Actually, that page's entry for me is really out of date since I'm now a full time software engineer (aka "Code Monkey") instead of "Mini-Henry".

Thanks for reminding me... I'll have to go change that now.

Those caricatures are a nice touch.

Mini-Henry? ... Let the people be the judge! Personally, I see more of a Bob ... although that could just be the cap.

Brad, why have you modelled your appearance on Harry Potter? Although Henry has done so on a more dedicated level.

I'll take that as a compliment since that "Bob" is Bob Young, our CEO (also known for starting a little thing called Red Hat Linux).

Huh? We've only recently started expanding internationally, but we are getting a good number of German customers.

It's a German slang word. Glad that doesn't seem to be keeping people from be(com)ing customers.

(Come on, can't I make a joke any more? ) "Lulu machen" is colloquial for "to pee".

Hi Brad, thanks very much for this. I haven't had a thourogh look through this yet as i'm at work, but it looks very promising. I am assuming i can create the calendar through Lulu and then save as a PDF?

Yes, that's correct.

<sales guy mode>

With Lulu, there are no upfront costs. The use of the website to build your book (or calendar in this case) is entirely free. There are no hidden fees; Lulu only makes any money when there is an actual sale. As an author, you only pay on a per printed item basis. If my calculations are correct, the cost of purchasing in bulk 1000 printed Standard Calendars would be about US$6,350.00.

</sales guy mode>

If you just want to use the website to create PDFs that you go off and print yourself, yes, you can do that for free. Once you've gone through the whole publishing wizard, return to the project you created and click the "View press-ready PDF" link.

Ok then. I didn't realise it was free to do it as a PDF. I was quite happy to pay for it without getting printed. The only reason i wanted to do it as a PDF was because i'm in Australia.

Kind of makes me feel like i'm doing something dodgy.

Thanks again Brad. Much appreciated.

Aye. Shipping to Australia for an order of 1000 calendars looks like about US$2000 in shipping costs, bringing the total to roughly US$8350. So, in the end, it would be a little over US$8 per calendar.

If you have any other questions, feel free to Private Message them my way.

*Bump*

I'm looking to create a calendar to make available for free download, hopefully as a PDF. It would be a vertical page per month, with a photo and the month grid under it, maybe some smaller photos in blank squares.

Is there any way to do this easily? I do not have iLife 06. Can NeoOffice do such a thing?

Do you have iLife 05? I think it could do calendars too.
