Um...I have to post this from my uh...FREEKIN' PC.

So 10.4.3 yeah it crashed my PB.

It didn't finish the install, got about a cm to the end of the install and then some weird black square window showed up in all the magical languages of the world.

Now when I try to restart it hangs on the APPL logo.

Please someone provide me with the assistance I so desire. I have my OSX install DVD if I have to wipe my computer I will cry!

Well, I don't know what the damn thing is 'officially' called...but it will forever more be viewed by me as something dark and cabalistic.

Seriously though, usually when I get the voodoo screen I'll pop in the OSX DVD and run Disk Utility. That inevitably finds something wonky. I haven't had to wipe my drive yet, so I'll cross my fingers for you.

[edit]: I should say also that it sometimes takes an incredibly long time to start up after doing that. I imagine little elfin feverishly rebuilding my precious data.

So it goes.

It installed perfectly well on my 17" PB but hung up multiple times on my 12" PB. I saw a lot of references to the size differences in another post. My 17" was the full 97MBs and had no problem whereas my 12" started as a 56MB. When I rebooted and ran the update again, it tried to download and install the full 97MBs but hung up again.

Note that will the update was running the first time, .Mac sync was running in the background. I did not see this until it bombed.

Any ideas how to get the updated installed?

Try downloading the stand-alone updater. That might work.

My 12" 1.33 Ghz PB took the install just fine. I got the 97mb update. The one thing was that it took a bit longer than usual for my computer to start up. It hung on the apple for a while, but then started up after giving it a little time (probably about the same amount of time a Windows machine normally takes :P).

This is strange.. My 12'' was fine as well. I have the 1.33 Ghz one though.

Disk utility with your Mac OS X Install Disc seems like the best way to go.

I hope you figure it out!

Deal with it.

Mine updated fine, although the it did hang on the apple screen for a few minutes before it started up.

I noticed the hangup on rebooting with both my PowerMac G4 and my iBook G4, must be some behind the sene changes going on.

I think so too -- my iBook did the same thing.

It's been a while since I've used the install discs -- there should be an "archive and install" option or something similar, which would reinstall the system (which is the only part that's screwy) and leave your Home folder alone.

My iBook did the same thing, hung up for a while when it restarted, then was slow loading Dock and Menubar, then all was well.

Now my PB 12" is hung up after an aborted install. I was able to run Disk Utility of the install disk and repair the premissions and repair disk but still cannot boot. Applecare as of yet has not figured it out either.

I got mine working. Booted into "target disk" mode from my iMac at the office. Installed the full combo update via firewire.

Back up and running smoothly.

I gave up. . . .too many problems. Firewired my 12" PB to my 17" PB and copy user file over and clean installed.

Now 10.4.3 seems to be working fine. What a waste of time.
