I am currently having troubles using Apple's news aggregator. It isn't malfunctioning, it's just showing me endless bent headlines; clickbait central. They're all really divisive positions, too - "come read this thing and be upset!!"

The Associated Press has an app with their stories, which seem to have far less agendized headlines. I don't know about the stories- I'm too sour right now to read anything.

Almost all new aggregators suck for the sensationalism you mention. In fact, very few I've found actually have some level of "here is the news we have for you, make a logical conclusion on your own with these facts."

Personally I now just use my RSS aggregator and weed through the articles that pass through. My sources are everything from here, other forums, Gizmodo, Cnet, conservative sources, Christian sources, Slickdeals, etc....

The tech blogs fill the liberal side of things while the Christian and conservative cover the, well, conservative side. While I didn't subscribe to the tech blogs for liberal news, most of those writers are liberal and many of their articles aren't actually tech anymore, or they are written with a heavy liberal stance.

It is about as good as I'm going to get with being able to balance out.

Interestingly enough, I specifically don't try to look up local and national news. I get most of my headlines from those tech blogs, and the forums.

I should add, that aggregators really suck because the headlines being fed to them. The articles are mostly written with an agenda and purpose to incite as opposed to inform like it was in the past. This isn't really new though. Since ratings became a thing and ad money became more valuable the push as more and more money as opposed to providing a valuable service to the community.

I find that Apple News does a "decent" job of puling articles that I want to read when I'm actually using it consistently. I go back and forth on reading it when I am bouncing around from Twitter (no longer), RSS, Reddit, national papers, here, etc..

The problem that I see most of the time is the nonsense click bait headlines that get pushed up because they get attention, but that's a problem across all news these days.

No more Twitter. It's Mastodon now.
