Firefox 1.0 finally Released!

http://www.mozilla.org/

How long has it been? I've been tinkering with Firefox since about a year ago, I guess.

The main Mozilla site is really getting hammered. It's incredibly slow from here. I haven't even tried to download it yet. Though, it also can be found on all of the other usual channels such as MacUpdate and VersionTracker.

Firefox also has a cool new Google start page:
http://www.google.com/firefox/?en-US&act=1

A huge number of bugs have been squashed, even since the Preview Release and Final Candidates. Go out and give it a try!

The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. The only way to guarantee thoughtful, informative discussion is to write thoughtful, informative posts. AppleNova is not a real-time chat forum. You have time to compose messages and edit them before and after posting.

Try http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/ for faster access. I would think that the download from mozilla-europe.org is the same as from mozilla.org, but I can't be sure.

Somehow I downloaded a non-English version.
Not sure what Napoveda, Nastroje or Zalozky mean, but I'll figure it out.

If your question is serious, Firefox 1.0 defaults to http://www.google.com/firefox/?en-US&act=1 when installed.

I've only installed it on my work PC, haven't downloaded it for my home Macs yet. I see no visible changes (other than start page) from the last two releases.

I use Safari @ home, but I've been running Mozilla @ work to try and lower IE's usage percentage.

No, he's referring to his posting of the same thing in the initial post.

BTW, I have this on my iDisk so it can be downloaded in less than an hour if you want... it was a whore to download. Got it from BT finallly (thanks ast3r3x).

Well, it seemes pretty good so far. I'm really missing the spell check, AdBlock doesn't seem to have been updated yet, and the Import fuction seems borked, but it's fast.

Not sure what to make of it yet.

EDIT:

Yay for rendering bugs!

Posting from it right now, I don't like it that much, especially the forum input window, it reaks of windws, heck, the whole application reminds me of windows trying to be mac. It does look like it has some very neat features, and I might use it from time to time if Safari and Camino fail me, but for the most part. meh.

Heh, right off the bat CMD+ up arrow(or CMD+ down arrow) doesn't jump to the top(or bottom) of the page like it does in safari, no way I could use this thing.

I've never used the Command key on my PowerBook to do that man, just use Function + the arrow keys like the rest of the normal people. Hell, you can even just go down, like a page at a time!

Fn= on far left side of keyboard

CMD=far right side of keyboard

Arrow keys= far right side of keyboard

Thumb on clicker, index finger on CMD + middle, or ring or pinky on any arrow key= far more efficient

It's good, but not good enough. I can't bring myself to use it full time. A shame too, because it's quick...just not quite all there yet.

The nice thing is that Firefox's keyboard shortcut for switching tabs is a one-hander. Ctrl-tab and ctrl-shift-tab do contort your fingers a bit, but they can be done with one hand.

If you want one-handed page up, page down, home, and end, you can always use uControl to remap the near-useless "Enter" key on the right side to the Fn key.

So, are they ever going to implement native OS X widgets? I don't know if I can handle it otherwise... Safari has spoiled me

I can bank from my Mac again! Nothing else has worked for the last year, and I have tried hard. I was forced to RDC to my work PC to get anything done.

The kids school network also works! I can keep up with the lessons plans and progress.

In the meantime, if you guys want to spruce up your button widgets try FireFoxy.
Nothing spectacular but it is an improvement for the pop-up menus and such.

Well, this helps with a Uni page I have to log into - pretty much the only thing I need it for. But maybe, when I upgrade to Panther, I won't need it. Safari seems to handle what I ask for presently - aside from some horrendous CPU usage when emoticons are displayed.

A friend of mine noticed this the other day on his PC and I just tested it on my Mac...
in firefox (and only firefox) loading "w" in the location bar (no quotes) redirects to www.georgewbush.com is this a bug? can anyone else confirm this behavior?
