Yeah, I heard about that! Awesome! If others would simply start doing that to all the no-talent hacks and bubbleheads clogging up the "entertainment industry", it would be a much cooler world. I'm happy to provide an indexed list I've maintained for just such an occasion.

This guy just became my new favorite person. That's a very cool letter. Part of me hopes she totally blows it off, just so we can see what bad things happen to her. Sue her eyes out!

Loser. Like Paris Hilton, she's not even attractive (yet people fall all over themselves acting like she is...huh?!?). Combine that with "not actually DOING anything" and, for the life of me, I can't figure out why she (and numerous twits just like her) is famous.

Man, I hate me some useless Hollywood skanks.

I thought this was a pretty cool story about a Pakistani shepherd who found a baby snow leopard orphaned last winter.

The cub is a big boy now and is coming to America to join some other snow leopards.

I love how the Japanese do eel (unagi).

Grilled over coals, basted to perfection, and served on a bed of perfect white rice.... Windswept, I dare you to try (it's called unaju) the next time you do Japanese.

Well, I *might* consider it, AWR; but I don't think eels are allowed to enter the US.

It's actually what we used to call 'starter sushi', because it's part cooked when served as sushi.

Absolutely delicious, and my favorite when having a light snack at a Kaiten-sushi.

I heard the Japanese smuggle them down the leg of their pants.

By the by, I remeber the odd eel or two in New England ponds and lakes. They freak me out; imagine holdering one in your bare hands!!

But in the hands of a Japanese chef hovering over his hibatchi - that's another story.

FWIW, eels can be had in US. I'm sure I once went to a hibatchi and ate eel, squid, octupus, and oh yea, sea urchin.

They called sea urchin "challenging".

It's "challenging" just hearing about it.

I was with a friend of mine at a sushi place once that his sister went to on a semi-daily basis, so the staff knew him. The chef gave us both some sea urchin. It *tasted* great, but the texture was like mixing some pudding with loose jello. Very nasty stuff, texture-wise.

More on the young snow leopard flying to America:

Patrick Thomas, curator of mammals at Bronx Zoo, said it would probably take three or four years before Leo and a female leopard would produce offspring. He said the zoo could send a female leopard back with Leo when he returns to Pakistan.

I got a chance to pat a baby clouded(?) leopard at a wild animal park a few years ago. All the visitors had to wash their hands carefully before patting. You'd think his coat would be soft, but the fur is very wiry, even on a young cub. I was surprised. He was a cutie.

I like that the cub in the news eventually will be returned to Pakistan with a mate, and will be reintroduced to the wild. I wonder how his mom and littermates died in the first place?

Oh, they're SO lucky. I would kill to hold a baby tiger.

And look at those enormous paws. Omg!

Yes, but do people actually *eat* them??? *shiver*

I like to kid around about eels, hiltond. I think eels are a relatively safe subject for a little mild mockery.

Now, if they were to get a name change, that might improve their bad press considerably. Like that cool French word that murbeau mentioned and that I've already forgotten.

Mexican fishermen lost at sea for NINE MONTHS! Omg!

Blown 5,000 miles off-course when their boat ran out of gas!!!

They were actually sleeping when a Taiwanese tuna boat happened to spot them near the Marshall Islands.

Of course, their families thought they had been long dead.

They're from a village called San Blas.

I was there once. What an exotic little town it was - palm trees and iguanas along a nice river, sharks' teeth on the beach.

Slept in a sleeping bag on the roof-deck of a hotel, because when we got into town late at night, everything was closed.

I remember waking in the quiet of dawn, at first light, with a dark, heavily clouded sky close overhead and a few raindrops hitting me in the face. I could hear breezes rustling the nearby palms. I'm not sure why, but the simple beauty of the moment nearly brought me to tears. I'll never forget that lovely tropical morning.

Anyway, what an amazing story about these San Blas fishermen. They were lost at sea last November!

From the LA Times

Quote:
IN BRIEF / BRAZIL
Man Sledgehammers Grenade, Dies in Blast
From Times Wire Reports
August 9, 2006

A man was killed in a workshop on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro when he tried to open what police believe was a rocket-propelled grenade with a sledgehammer.

The workshop was destroyed and several cars parked outside caught fire. Another man who was in the shop was taken to a hospital with severe burns, an officer said.

Police found several unexploded army-issue rocket-propelled grenades in the workshop. They believe the ammunition had been brought there by scavengers wanting to sell it as scrap metal.

Omg!

This 36-yr-old guy in India *unknowingly* carried his malformed twin inside him for his entire life.

Finally, when breathing became difficult for him because of his huge belly, doctors cut him open and unleashed gallons of fluid from inside his abdominal cavity, as well as a strange, half-formed creature with feet and hands that had been growing *loose* inside the man's gut for 36 years...

The doctors were pretty well freaked out.

*shiver*

Gives me the creeps.

Now he is a normal skinny guy.

Whoa! The ABC news site has a video about the *pregnant* guy, and at the very end it shows a second or two of 'what' was inside him.
