Please help me in this matter, and I'll be very grateful.
I recently received an Ipod, 30 gig for Christmas and it works great despite the update flaw where you can't turn the backlight off by holding down the menu button... but there was one thing I noticed that might be a problem or not.
When I turn off my backlight to preserve battery life, the screen is so dark that I can't see ANYTHING at all. I searched around on the internet but there hasn't been mention of this problem at all.
Sure I can make out distinct writing and all, but when the backlight is off (which I need to conserve battery), It's abnormaly dark.
Can anybody help me?
Thanks alot.

Isn't that supposed to happen when you turn the backlight off?

That's normal. Color screens are not visible with out a backlight.

Yes, but online, people offer turning the backlight off as a comfortable solution to saving battery and people reply, saying that it's a great idea but when I turn it off, I see NOTHING.
On Ipod minis, when you turn off the backlight, you still see clearly.

iPod mini's use monochrome screens. NOT color screens.

So?
You turn it on when you need it en keep it switched off to save power when you don't need it?
As far as I know it switches itsself off after a short time... (my first gen iPod did)

The timer is adjustable, I believe. At least, it is on mine.

It is adjustable: off, 2, 5, 10, 20, 30 seconds or always on are the choices, IIRC.
