Planning on purchase of iMac G5 with 20" screen for family use (and some CAD).

Any speculation on when 2nd generation might be expected?
... as in processor speed bump, video card upgrade, firewire 800 port, hard disc, memory, etc.?

Need is not really immediate (we could wait a few months), but sooner rather than later would be nice.

Thanks for any thoughts.

I'm guessing u won't see an upgrade until probably the middle of the year. but that's just a guess...

...but it's a good guess, considering history.

Apple has let the iMac - G3 and G4 models, mind you - sit a bit and languish. No one knows if that will continue with the G5 iMac. If it DOES, then you're probably looking at a springtime refresh (April-June), making it 8-10 months old since its introduction in Paris in early September.

I don't think they'll go MUCH longer than that. But I also don't think it'll get revved in the first quarter of 2005 either.

If you're okay with waiting a few months, then you're probably going to have to.

I would venture to guess either April or July.

In the same boat. Ready to buy a 20" iMac G5 but just waiting for a possible upgrade.

I'd like to buy it before I graduate in May so I can take advantage of the educational discount.
