I wonder if there will be a new Final Cut Studio in April?

A new Final Cut Pro (before it was part of the Studio) was almost always released every year at NAB in April.

Here's a link to the release history http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_C...elease_history

Final Cut Studio (PPC) was released at NAB in 2005, was updated to a Universal Binary in March 2006, and Final Cut Studio was released at NAB in 2007

Will we see a Final Cut Studio 3 at NAB this year, or will we have to wait until 2009?

Seems unlikely. FCS2 was released only last year and that had a lot of new stuff (with the exception of DVD Studio).

Having said that, I'd like to see Final Cut get a UI tweak to fit in more with the rest of the package.

Agreed. I don't think the whole studio would change though. I think FCS2 would thereafter include Final Cut 6.5, or whatever they call it. But the UI does need a makeover to fit in with the new digs, similar to Logic, Motion, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised to see:

Final Cut Pro 6.5 (UI mostly, maybe some new codec support)

DVD Studio Pro 4.5 (UI mostly, Support for Blu-Ray)

but have those both become part of FCS2

Though I wouldn't be surprised to see nothing until next year, either.

I'm guessing Apple will say something about Final Cut Server. I remember that being announced, but to my knowledge, it was never released.

I hope not I just bought Studio 2.

I hope we get a free update this year ala Final Cut HD (4.5) that was a really nice present.

I just spent $50 on Final Cut Studio 1.1 Universal upgrade last year.

and I spent like $500 on the Final Cut Studio 2 upgrade this year.

So I do not look forward to having to spend another $500 or not buy it and have out dated software.

NAB is next week, I think. We'll find out soon enough.

Is Apple even going to be at NAB this year? I looked at the exhibitor list at www.nabshow.com and didn't see Apple on it.

I don't know that web site is so frickin convoluted in how its navigation system is organized, I don't have time to look through it. More than likely Apple is doing nothing with FCS this year; it's too soon. If they did have a booth I bet it would be about FCS2 and Logic Studio.

Neither Avid or Apple are showing at NAB this year. Historically being two of the biggest vendors (with Adobe, Autodesk and Media100), that's gotta hurt the show a little bit. I know it's expensive to put up a booth there (especially the size they usually do) but I haven't heard either way if it was because of cost or not.

So it goes.

Yeah, FCS has kind of got into a 2 year cycle, so I didn't really expect anything this year. At most I'd expect a .1 or .5 update: DVD SP getting Blu-ray support for the former, and that plus Phenomenon replacing Motion (hopeful, although doubtful) for the latter.

So it goes.

Isn't Phenomenon the Shake replacement thing? I don't think Motion is going anywhere... especially considering how shiny and new it is? Or do you mean Phenomenon is sort of the merging of Shake and Motion?

Yeah, I was talking about Apple bundling Phenomenon into FCS instead of Motion. Doubtful, like I said, but stranger things have happened (see Cinema Tools).

Ahem. I also do palm readings and psychic readings. For a nominal fee of course.

Yah that was a good call. Too bad the FC Server browser app is Java-based. Complete bone-headedness on Apple's part IMO. By definition this means it's going to be a sluggish app in some respects. Java just blows. I wish people would stop developing with it other than for Web apps.
