Hi guys! Im about to buy a POWER MAC G5. But I dont know which model to choose. I mean. I know the 2.7 is really fast -a little bit fast than 2.3- and comes with liquid cooling... But does it worth to buy that one for the lets say the Liquid Cooling? Is reasonable to spend that extra money? Here in my country is like US$ 800 more - like 3.200 dollars the 2.3 and 4000 dollars the 2.7-

Thanks a lot! Kusakun

I had to decide between the two in June - I can't say which is better for you, but in the end, I came to the conclusion that the gains of 2.7 over 2.3 were not worth the difference in price. It wasn't an easy decision to make at the time, but I've been perfectly happy with my PowerMac's performance at 2.3 GHz, so I have no regrets.

honestly, i'd go with the older 2.5ghz G5...
if you absolutely need the dual-layer dvdburner... get one and drop it in the older powermac

I also had this same decision, and I went for the 2.3. After studying the differences in time for things such as rendering and burning and whatnot, I figured 15 seconds or so wasn't worth that much money. The 2.3 is doing a phenomenal job thus far

I recently had a blank check to buy our designers new G5s. Despite being able to buy the 2.7, I still chose the 2.3. Money saved went to more ram, a 256mb graphics card, and an additional drive to run a raid setup.

Yes, but if you truly had a blank check, "money saved" doesn't mean anything.

You could have gotten the 2.7 Ghz G5 and the extra RAM, 256 MB graphics card, etc.

True, but I've fostered a reputation of only asking for things which are truly neccessary.

Because of that, I have pretty much free reign in purchasing what I want. They don't even question if it's needed. If I request something, I get it.

Get the "cooler" one. Too much heat will fry any system over time and the little difference in speed will never be noticed!

!.8 or 2 Ghz should last even longer with less problems than any computer Apple makes at this time.

In my humble opinion!

Thrata - I use Motion 2 a lot; more important than 2.3 v. 2.7 GHz is your GPU; that's where Motion shuttles off most of its rendering/processing in real-time. I have a 2.3 GHz Powermac, and found that the video card was the real key to success...

Well, my personal conclusion is that it wasn't worth the extra money for the 2.7 (as I posted above). The difference was marginal for the price difference, IMO. YMMV.
