I have a mini, the god of all pods, but i have recently found its capacity limited, and the battery is dying.

I was going to buy a 60 vid, but have heard of teh 8 gig nano and the widescreen ipod and am nervous about jumping the gun. I start an internship in mid jun, and can't go to much into the summer without 8 hrs of playback for work.

When is the SOONEST and the the MOST LIKELY next release of any apple product, and the probable release of any new ipods?

I'd personally look for a cheap battery pack first to hold me over and wait for updates. But I am not you.

There's no schedule to it. If there was a schedule, there wouldn't be all the bickering you see on forums like this one about when it's going to happen. We don't know, and anybody who tells you they do know for sure is a liar. We see a lot of new product announcements at the quarters, but we also see some random ones mid-quarter as well. There have been 7 or 8 "release dates" for the updated iBook already, and we still haven't seen it. Nobody knows except people deep inside Apple, and none of them are jeopardizing their careers by posting here.

Really, sometimes it can be fairly obvious when a big announcement is coming (the rumor mills tend to kick into high gear well before the media invites go out for the larger events, so occasionally they're a good indicator); though it's not terribly uncommon for His Steveness to just toss something out there with little or no warning.

For any new iPod release, I would suspect that there will be a reasonable amount of warning before any 'major' product line updates. Personally, if I were in the market for a new iPod right now, I wouldn't necessarily wait for a new model to be released because nobody seems to have a good idea when that will happen. Just my 0.02.

from what I hear, it sounds like the new Nanos and 6G iPods should be available in September...
