1. how can i change a folder icon, with a new icon?

i think i have to 'Get Info' on the folder icon, and then some how drag and drop the icon in the get info window?

2. how can i change an app alias icon?

File -> Get Info.
Click icon.
Edit -> Paste.

You can paste any graphic or copy an icon from something else. This works on aliases too.
