Hi there,
Every time I double-click to open my hard drive window, the window comes up half off my powerbook screen. I have to drag it into the middle to see the whole of it. Anyone have any ideas about how I correct this rather irritating situation? Thanks, Malcolm |

Drag it into the middle of the screen and close it promptly (before navigating anywhere else in it). Then open it up again and it should stay in the middle of the screen.

Well thanks for the advice, but opening-then-closing-then-reopening does not work.
And I wouldn't know how to log in as root... I just log in like a very ordinary Mac user. So I don't think this is it. Or have I been logging in as root (whatever that means) all along, without realizing it? Any other ideas? Thanks, Malcolm |

1) Close all open Finder windows. 2) Open a new finder window. 3) Position it exactly where you want it. Don't do anything else with the window. 4) Close that window. Open a new one and you should be set. |

Thanks again for trying!
I've done what you say, and it still doesn't work. (I even downloaded Macaroni and ran it, to no avail). Every other window behaves... except for my 'Macintosh HD' window. Any other ideas? Should I try to clear the .DS_Store files (whatever, and wherever, they are)??? Malcolm |

Hi all,
Just to let you know how things got solved. Just opening, moving and then closing the window didn't do a thing, but when I opened the window, then re-sized it as well as moved it, (and then closed it and opened it) it came up the new size, and in the right place. Hope that makes sense. thanks, Malcolm |

fyi: the .DS_Store files that everyone was talking about are hidden files, located in many directories, that save the window preferences. deleting them, iirc, makes the window's settings back to default, or possibly global.

I noticed recently that the root level finder window needs a little extra work than other folders and deleting the .ds_store wasn't enough. Maybe I needed to log out or something, but I got it working like malcolm did and wasn't going to waste time on a problem that was already solved.
