It's very sad when you give your friend the gift of Mac only to have him disappointed when it stops working in a month. My friend's iMac G5 seems to have stopped working. It just goes to the boot screen and stays there forever.
We reset the PRAM. Nothing. We tried running the Hardware Test. Won't boot from cd. Just sits. After a little while the fans turn on full blast. Still nothing. Other suggestions? Please. It's terrible that my friend bought a Mac because his PC broke and now a month later his Mac breaks. |

Do you have an Apple store near you? If you can't even run the hardware diagnostics disc, you should probably just take it in. Even if it's software, there's a 90 software warranty on it, so he should be ok. Why break your back trying to figure it out when someone else will do it for free?
If it's not red and showing substantial musculature, you're wearing it wrong. |
