This is true when there is a high opportunity cost to spending too much time on a picture. For something like the pic I was working on, that was the best scene I could spot for a long time in the mall, so I think it was worth it to spend more time on it.

Using either the victor or Steve's shot the subject wouldn't be moving in depth, no significant change in focus. WRT Steve's shot the subject was motionless amidst the motion.

Your point is valid, but not relevant to this setting.

The point was photography is more than still scenes and staged frames. Having to take many photos to get the right shot shouldn't be endorsed even in the slightest. Taking a sequence of photos in anticipation of something really is a tangential situation.

Thanks NosferaDrew - I am so out of touch with current (and I use that term loosely) musical releases. Also (for the record), we don't get wikipedia access over here, but I should have googled "Muse" nonetheless.

In my experience a tripod for shots of the (almost) full moon is not strictly necessary. At maximum zoom my (relatively simple) camera can do with 1/250 sec. at 50 ASA. With better optics, the shutter speed could even be faster.

But let's wait for Richie's response.

Yes indeed, I used a tripod. f5.0 1/160 ISO 80 48x digital (12x optical) zoom. I put this image on my AppleTV and it looks gorgeous. 37" of HD moon. Yes, it is a bit fuzzy/grainy due to the extreme digital zoom but what the heck...

Here tonight, we have, ah, apple and orange. We all different, but in the end, we all fruit.

This is an old one I took a few months ago. I was looking through my iPhoto library for some landscape shots and noticed that this one had some potential if it was converted to black and white. What do you guys think?

Very nice atmosphere! The composition is not optimal though.

I converted some of my recent pics to b/w too. I posted the medium size picture from Flickr. The full size one is too big for this forum.

Color image originally, modified as follows: made it b&w, added some saturation and contrast as well as hiked up the exposure so the background is washed out. Also blurred the pic slightly. What d'yall think? By the way, this is my wife with her niece

Bump.

Although it's technically not a B&W photograph, I think this sepia shot should still qualify for this thread.

Taken yesterday at a classic car show.

We had a bit of a storm here this afternoon, and during a break in the clouds, I went outside and tried to capture a few shots of the clouds.

Here's my favorite of the day:

Sigma 18-125mm f/3.5-4.5 @ 61mm f/8, 1/800s, ISO100

Now, which do you guys prefer? That one, or this one with the contrast bumped up?

I prefer the first image, Ryan. The second one looks unnatural. Perhaps if you'd bumped the contrast just a little bit (it looks like you bumped it dramatically), it would have been okay. I like the original between the two you posted, though.
