I'm just looking for some clarification as to why this kind of purchasing advice should be posted in General Discussion and not Purchasing Advice.

This area should be used to discuss the G3, G4, and G5; Mac OS X; the iLife apps; iPod, iPod mini, and iPod shuffle
And I thought this could do with a little bit of an update

The Purchasing Advice did most likely not exist at the time of that writing.

Gah! A user read the posting guidelines. Crap.

We weren't really expecting that. Instead we assume no one reads them, then point to them when someone screws up and say "you should have read this".

Reading it without having made a mistake throws our entire system off.

People who read posting guidelines should be banned.

I went through the guidelines with a fine-tooth comb. The last thing I wanted to do in any of my posts was to annoy the mods and admins. Well, that and I don't want to embarrass myself.

Whoops! Mea culpa. I'd swear I fixed that... maybe I forgot to merge over the changes. Anyway, I'll take care of it when I get home in an hour or so.

Thanks for the sharp eyes and for *gasp* actually reading the posting guidelines!

The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. The only way to guarantee thoughtful, informative discussion is to write thoughtful, informative posts. AppleNova is not a real-time chat forum. You have time to compose messages and edit them before and after posting.

You're dead, quagmire - for 'this' and all future offenses.

Oh, btw, the mods/admins here are thinking of having a new rule: ...that 16 yr. olds are inherently-defective members of the species, and therefore should be banned from responsible messageboards for a year.

A similar rule, but applicable to 17 yr. olds, will undoubtedly go into effect in, oh, about 11 months.

Doesn't everybody read them? I remember going through them when they were first posted... I think I was a member before they even existed.

But I wouldn't so much describe it as a fine-toothed comb as a large garden implement... more of a cursory overview of the rows one might hoe... and the ho's one shouldn't.

And damn! I *do* need to remember to visit the garden center.

Thanks for reminding me.

Secret AppleNova adminstration to-do list

1. Create Apple-related forum community; entice thousands to join free of charge

2. Create important-looking Posting Guidelines riddled with errors, contradictions, & fallacies; refer members to them frequently in hopes that the guidelines' complexity will deter methodical scrutiny

3. ????????

4. PROFIT!

You ask me for a hamburger.

I'm having sleeping issues, so I thought another read of the guidlines would send me off to the land of nod

Quote:
Similarly, members are allowed custom titles, but are only permissed to change them after having made 1000 posts. Titles can also be set by the forum administrators, but they are not open to requests for changing them. This feature is a privilege to members who are an active part of the AppleNova community. If a member abuses this function, it too will be revoked.
My emphasis. I'm guessing that was meant to be permitted?

"permissed"?

Okay, so he'd had a few pints.

You would too if you had to keep editing those damned posting guidelines.

Haha, well most of my free time is in fact spent on forums, which is basically an exercise in written language; you could say I get plenty of practice.

Well, there are two factors here: the excellence of your written language, *and* the intelligence behind that excellence.

In case you weren't aware of the fact, bright females find both highly appealing.
