Hello all. I currently own an iMac 20" G4 w/o AirPort Extreme Card. I plan to purchase the Intel iBook when it is finally released (this summer?), and I would like to connect both computers.
What are the respective merits of both the AirPort Extreme Base Station and the AirPort Express? The drawbacks? What can you tell me about the signal strengths and the rate of dropouts, etc.? I understand that the AP Extreme has both ethernet AND wireless connection capabilites while the AP Express has only wireless. I suppose that difference alone could be a powerful deciding factor. So what do you say? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you much! |

I have both, and the Airport Express does have an ethernet port. I have a computer downstairs plugged into it. As for signal strength and all that, I don't pay enough attention to know. I have them set up using WDS, so I can't give you an accurate review on signal.

Airport Express has only one Ethernet port. You wouldn't be able to plug both a DSL modem and a wired desktop into it, but you could plug in a DSL modem with 10 wireless computers (laptop or desktop), for instance.
