I need to install Mojave on my iMac. I've been using MS Office 2008 until now, which I realize won't work in Mojave. I would love to leave the Microsoft world and am hoping that the Pages and Numbers applications in Mojave will be able to open the 2008 Word and Numbers documents that I have on my machine. Is this possible?

It depends on how complex the file is. iWork won’t support all features. But in a nutshell, yes.

With Excel, it gets down to macros and VBA. If your spreadsheet has none of those, then all should be good. However, if it has either then Numbers will not open them.

With Word, it's pretty much the same story. However, macros and VBA within Word documents are so rare that I have never encountered them.

Other than that, you will regularly bump into warnings reminding you that fonts are missing. Pages and Numbers will pluck a web-safe font (usually Times, Ariel, or Geneva) to fix the issue. This can mess with your formatting, so be warned.

And that brings up formatting. Word has so many formatting issues that documents will sometimes need a complete do-over.

Importantly, your stuff will work, but you might have some cleanup work to do.

I get an alert Word 2008 is not optimized, but still opens and runs for me.
