I get this thing every now and then on my laptop. It has only happened since I installed Mighty Mouse...

What will happen is that my left click will stop working.

I can use Expose, and get the dock out. I can even get the menu bar menus to drop down (on the right side of the menu bar).

But I cannot 'click' anything.

If I activate Expose and then click on a window, that will become active, but the mouse will still not be able to select, move, or click anything.

Essentially my Mac is dead and I have to ssh in and reboot it.

I have tried using the mouse pad. I have also tried unplugging my Mighty Mouse and sticking another mouse in the USB port. But all to no avail.

Anyone else had this? Or anyone got an explanation, or soliution?

Never seen this. Has 10.4.3 resolved it by chance?

Well it has not happened again recently. So I guess so....

It was really strange.. I managed to get any window to come to the front by activating Expose, but all it would do it make it the dominant window.. The moment I clicked on it, it became a window with low priority and as such non-clickable.

In the end the only way I found out was by do an ssh and sudo reboot!

Gone now though. So I guess 10.4.3 did fix it indeed..

I've had that happen with early versions of 10.3 and my Logitech mice. A simple restart fixed it. That or repairing permissions. (It was a long time ago)

^^ One more quality post from the desk of Ebby. ^^

That's funny, why didn't you just hit ctrl-eject to bring up the Sleep/Restart/Shut Down dialog box?

If you didn't know about that, now you do

Nope. I never ever knew that existed.

Thanks Luca.

But where were you two weeks ago while I was frantically using NetInfo and half a dozen other tools to find the IP address of my powerbook so I could shut it down... This was jsut after I had installed a new hard drive and there was no way I was going to use the power button to shut it down!!!
