My G3 iMac "hisses" when the monitor goes to sleep. It sounds like the power supply. Anybody know how to get rid of the his?

The monitor makes a constant noise when it's not on? Or does it just do it for a few seconds?

it's constant so far although it gets quieter the longer it's off.

Try a different power outlet in your home.

Your CRT may be on the fritz. Any strange things happening with the screen of late, or is it in good shape?

Do you have external speakers plugged in? If so, try unplugging them and see if there is a difference.

no, it is not the speakers it comes from the back of the unit. It sounds kind-of like the powersupply. The CRT seems to be working fine, although there is a known problem where the display suddenly doesn't work anymore on the original G3's.
It's sad thinking that this old 15" 1999 CRT is the same resolution as my New 2005 12" powerbook. (1024x768) |
