A student has been in here a couple times this past week using the iMacs in the computer labs and she has this Lexmark USB Flash drive that only mounts read-only in OS X for some reason. It mounts read/write in Windows no problem.

I know that some thumb drives have little switches on them so you can force them to mount read only, but this one doesn't have one of those.

I also know that some Lexmark USB flash drives have a type of encryption, and thought maybe this one had it. So I formatted it on Windows, still nothing.

Think I should try mounting it myself from the shell?

No awkward goodbyes. No 'still friends' bullshit. Just a couple of bruised titties and a failed relationship. I rule.

Most likely it's formatted in NTFS (read-only on Mac) instead of FAT-32 (read/write on Mac).

Well i think my mac just ruined my flash memory. I put some files in there from my PC, i came here, it opened the flashdisk, i browsed it, it crashed and "ejected" the flashdisk and now it doesnt work on the PC and the Mac. The mac doesnt even detects it while the PC detects it but doesnt recognize it

Good call FFL, thanks. I wasn't sure if OS X could read/write to a drive that was mounted with NTFS.

OSX can read, but not write to NTFS.
