Just noticeed that my iPod mini was syncing automatically contact and calendar entries. Do not want this, so changed preferences. how to remove entries already in my iPod and earn back more space for music ?

Thanks !

First, enable disk mode in iPod preferences. Then, open up the iPod's hard drive in Finder... you should see folders for contacts & calendars. Simply go into those folders and delete whatever you don't want, then empty the trash.

You should be able to just re-sync the iPod. It won't do it automatically unless you changed your music library. There's a resync button (I believe it's labeled "update" in the iPod preferences panel in iTunes. That should do it if you don't want to delete everything manually.
