All websites have loaded perfectly in Safari for me in the past, however this afternoon several of them stopped working, most notably google and slashdot. In Firefox, google works, but slashdot doesn't. Most other websites are fine. Does anyone know of a reason for this?

What do you mean by "doesn't work"? The page doesn't load? It renders incorrectly?

Whatever the problem may be, try emptying out your cache(Safari -> Empty Cache).
