i think it would be great for drawing applications and annotating notes... just trying to get some feedback here before I get it (although it's under $5 so not a huge investment either way)

My understanding is that it has to be thick like that to properly register as a finger touch. Admittedly, though, I haven't been following the tech behind resistive vs. capacitive touch screens.

Would be awfully inconvenient if you accidentally ate it halfway through whatever you were doing, so that might be a good thing.
