I just read Brad's sticky regarding the policy on IBL (In Before Lock) posts:
http://forums.applenova.com/announcement.php?f=12&a=25

I'm not sure what constitutes an IBL post. Can a guideline be posted regarding what constitutes a IBL post so the forum members know what to look out for? Thanks - Rabbit

From Brad's Announcement:
Quote:
IBL or "In before lock" posts constitute trolling and will earn you a 24-hour ban
Basically it is a post like "This is going to be locked" or "Post before this gets locked" etc. At least that is my understanding of the IBL posts they are trying to prevent.

If you happen to make a post in a thread that devolves into a flame war or something, and then the mods lock it, you're fucked because you were 'In Before the Lock'.

Such are the hazards of posting at AppleNova.

So it goes.

Say you see a thread going down in flames (as 709 mentioned) and you decide to do a pointless postcount++ post to the effect of:

you will find yourself on the unable-to-post side of banination. At least it's only for 24 hours so you can think about what you did and apologize to the mods/admins once they remove the virtual duct tape from your online persona's mouth, errr, keyboard.

Yea, maybe the banination should occur on a business day. That would be more painful then going out in a blaze of IBL glory on a Friday afternoon when you know you'll be camping all weekend.

I know you're not serious, but let's not create a wrong impression here. Only posting "IBL", "1n b4 lox0rs!!", or other nonsense will get you in trouble - or if you're one of the flamers. Just posting in a locked thread (before it's locked, obviously) is not dangerous at all.

For some time, there were lots of useless threads, and people would post "IBL" until a mod would lock them. That's hardly happening anymore, unless there's a spammer, and then it's even more annoying than the spammer him-/herself.

Almost, yeah -- got a gig tomorrow night, and our usual evening performance tonight. A 24-hour break from AN won't matter to me anyway, because I can still waste plenty of time on my other regular forums.

ouch thats harsh. although technically, uncalled for: the thread is not going to be locked, so really it does not constitute an in before lock post.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

It's more the posts that consist of nothing other than IBL!!!!1! that get old. Especially when it's just a spammer. If it's a spammer, please creatively rip them a new one so we can read over them during our down time and get a chuckle.

IBL just isn't funny enough. We demand entertainment!!

That's actually part of the idea behind this policy. Some idiots will post "IBL" in perfectly legitimate threads that are not going to be locked. I've had to clean up a few threads from that kind of nonsense and I don't like it.

(No offense to BarracksSi; I'm just pointing that out in general.)

The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. The only way to guarantee thoughtful, informative discussion is to write thoughtful, informative posts. AppleNova is not a real-time chat forum. You have time to compose messages and edit them before and after posting.

We get a raise.

Besides which, posting after the lock isn't the concern, it's the stupid IBL posts.

If you can post a IAL post, please feel free to do so.

In that case, you'll be dead the next morning and a short posting ban is the least of your worries.

EDIT: Misspelt count. Don't ask.

If you had stolen my bike, trust me, you wouldn't be posting to any online forums unless you had one of those "type with eye movements" input devices that severely handicapped people use.

And your mom would be fishing shit out of your asshole with her finger because you would have lost any feeling below the neck.

Actually his mom would probably be passed out on the bed with a huge stupid grin on her face.

You see, murbot doesn't like to lie. And when he walks up to you with a baseball bat and hits you in the nuts, you'll ask him "Who are you?!?", and he'll be able to say "I'm the motherfucker that's going to kick your ass".

You know it.
