Available for download here, here's a summary list of new/improved features:
-USB 2.0 support (finally!) -Better Boot Camp support (full support for FAT32/NTFS; Parallels Tools no longer required; no more having to reactivate every time you switch between Parallels and Boot Camp) -Better Coherence mode (put Windows apps on Mac desktop/Dock; use Command-Tab to switch between Mac and Windows apps simultaneously; use Windows Command console in Coherence mode; use in Windows 2000, XP, 2003, or Vista) -Full-feature virtual CD/DVD drive (burn CDs/DVDs, watch copy-protected DVDs inside a VM) -New beta of Parallels Transporter More details are at the link above. Addendum: Oh, and they're having a holiday special: purchase a license by Saturday and get a full year of major version upgrades free. |

Does it still require its own hardware config when booting?

I would guess not, since that was part of Parallels Tools for Boot Camp.
USB2 support is exciting, but I'm still waiting for 3D support, since all I use Windows for is gaming. Once they get that running, I'll buy a license. Until then, I'll stick to Boot Camp. |

Coherence is progressing along nicely too. I'd like to see the taskbar eliminated completely, and replaced with a start menu in the dock a la Vitrual PC 7. They've already got Windows programs showing up in the dock, I imagine it's not far behind. You had me at asl ....... |

I still can't use Boot Camp. I didn't read anything, just install the new beta, create a new VM with my bootcamp partition. It says "Unable to open image disk Boot Camp"

Does it still have that XP Corporate edition bug or whatever it is called? I haven't had access to my dad's laptop yet.

Are you sure you downloaded the one linked in this thread and not the 3036 build? 3036 requires Parallels Tools for Boot Camp, and you'll get that error if you try without installing the tools.

Yeah I downloaded 3036 when it came out, installed the tools but it didn't worked.
I downloaded the 3094 but it didn't work either. I read that I need to deinstall the Tools in the Boot Camp side but I can't figure out how to. In add/delete there is no mention of the Tools. I tried to reinstall them to unistall correctly but now I get a error while installing (can't tell you what it is, I'm not at home). Still I managed to make my internet connection work in a VM .... but Boot Camp would be nice. Dave Mustaine :"God created whammy bars for people who don't know how to solo." |

BTW: The corporate edition bug is fixed. Works for me. Kinda slow at times in coherence mode... I hope that is updated.

Since I was an early adopter of this, do I not have to pay for major releases? Or is this still the original release and I'll have to pay for an upgrade?
I'm downloading the beta now and will install later. Louis L'Amour, “To make democracy work, we must be a nation of participants, not simply observers. One who does not vote has no right to complain.” Visit our archived Minecraft world! | Maybe someday I'll proof read, until then deal with it. |

Thus far, two final releases were available for the Mac: 2.1 and 2.2. These builds are from the upcoming release 2.5. All 2.x releases are free upgrades. The 3.0 release, on the other hand, won't be.

In fact, I think that Parallelswill not be a perfect solution for gamers. Even when it has 3d graphics support it will still remain a virtual machine, that eats huge amounts of your RAM Maybe 3d support will enable running Vista with its heavy graphics on MacOS, but gamers will keep on using Boot Camp. BTW, I heard rumors that Apple is going to charge for Boot Camp soon

Yes, this ram issue is really important - you'll have to own a really MIGHTY Mac to play games I don't play - that's why I use Parallels entirely for work. And, I should say that running two Oses at a time is very convenient Coherence mode really rocks - it is absolutely great!!!
All this are just rumors - I'm talking about Boot Camp fees... |

Anyone else notice the way Parallels completely slows down your system when it's been running for a while? My iMac gets REALLY SLOW and I've got 1.5 gigs of RAM (392 alloted to the VM). If I'm running Parallels and go to be, when I come back in the morning, it takes *minutes* for my computer to get responsive again. It's pretty painful.

That's a ridiculous solution to the problem. I have plenty of RAM. There should be no degradation in performance over time. Is there a memory leak? If it's not red and showing substantial musculature, you're wearing it wrong. Last edited by torifile : 2007-02-02 at 09:28. |

RC2 is out now. iSight support.
And a fixed memory leak; maybe this is what tori was experiencing. (edit, half an hour later) …and indeed, the iSight works. It also resets properly; when you remove it from Parallels, you can launch Photo Booth again. Excellent. Last edited by chucker : 2007-02-04 at 08:42. |

If I plop down $79 for RC2 today, and they upgrade to 1.0 next week, will that be a paid for upgrade or are they still doing that free upgrades for the first year thing?

It'll be a free upgrade. Updates from 2.x to 2.y are all free. Since 2.1 is the lowest Mac version, and 2.5 the one about to become final, any Mac update is currently free. That'll change when they start developing 3.0.

Hmmm... Had a problem with this last update.
Bootcamp works fine, but Booting in parallels gets this message now and windows won't continue loading. |

I'd like to see Parallels' coherence mode evolve into something much like Classic for OS X ppc. Make Windows as transparent as possible.
Have they got a dock start menu implemented yet, like in VPC 7? You had me at asl ....... |
