I just tried logging into .mac, and it seems they are doing what could be a long awaited upgrade for .mac users.. or they are just tweaking something.. ( fingers crossed)

Yeah, hmm.

Pretty nice. But where are those widgets?

edit: That .Mac groups thing looks really cool!

Now suddenly the .Mac page isn't loading for me. Is it me only?

edt: nvm, it's just Safari. (!) I opened it up in Firefox and it worked.

1 GB!

That was very much wanted. Very much thank you Apple

1 Gb is great, but overall quite disappointed. Instead of this groups thing, I would like to see more options on Homepage - i.e. greater integration of text and photo options for wider "web-design" capabilities (but still simple enough to be user-friendly). Also, where are those widgets?

Has anyone seen the increased 1 GB actually reflected on your iDisk? Mine still shows a capacity of 200 MB.

edit: Ugh. After looking around, I managed to discover that you have to manually change your Account Settings on the mac.com website.

Something isn't adding up. Confused? So was I until I found...

What's worse? Clicking Save does squat. Despite the clearly-visible option for a 50/974 split, it does nothing. You have to deliberately change it to a different size and then click Save. Oddly enough, when I returned to this page, the 50/974 option was not even available.

C'mon Apple. You're smarter than that. Don't hide these great updates behind obfuscating layers of website configuration pages.

I have noticed a couple of strange bug too now. For example the main page said; "it couldn't see my settings" ?

It looks like this update has made things a little flakey at .mac

Btw. and a little OT:
Does anyone know if you get a receipt when you renew your account? I tried to renew a couple of days ago, but it just kept jumping back to the "your membership will renew on October 10th" page. So at the moment I don't really know if it actually got my order Could this have anything to do with this update thing?

Here here!!

I had to actually read the help notes to find the allocation feature!

There is no way I would have ever figured out to 're-validate' my account details by clicking the little 'scratt' thing that shows I am already logged in!

Good grief!

I haven't done anything worth backing up yet (today). I have just downloaded it and stashed it 'cos I like having new stuff!!!

I have never yet got Backup to work as a reliable system to be honest so am looking forward to this, but am not holding my breath!

To host mock-up pics and whatnot. Also, as "in-between" transfer (upload something at work, grab it at home...and vice versa). Also as back-up to personal documents or items I wouldn't want lost if my PowerBook decided to take a dive (some photos, some personal info, stuff from friends/family, etc.).

The new backup is an improvement, this will make life a little easier.

Crippled. Well, I guess it's better than not being able to use it at all.

By the way, here's what the "What's New in Backup" from the help file reads:
  • One-step iLife backup
Backup comes with preset backup plans for your iLife content (iPhoto and iTunes Libraries, and iMovie, iDVD, and GarageBand projects) and other Mac essentials (personal settings and your home folder). Each plan has a destination and schedule already set up, so with a click of a button, your backups will be set to run automatically.
  • Flexible backup plans
You can customize the preset plans or create completely new ones for particular files and folders you want to back up. QuickPicks make it easy to add hard-to-find files, like your Address Book data or your Mail messages. With Tiger, you can use the built-in Spotlight feature to search for particular files to add—or you can just browse files and folders on your hard drive.
  • Multiple backup destinations
You can create different backup plans for different backup destinations, or choose to back up the same plan daily to one destination and weekly to another. Schedule regular daily backups of small files like preferences to your iDisk, and monthly backups of large files like your iTunes library to CD, DVD, or an external FireWire drive such as your iPod. You can set a schedule for any backup destination, including CD or DVD.
  • Incremental backups
Backup now saves new versions of files that have changed every time it performs a backup. The result is an efficient use of storage that saves you time and media costs if you use disposable media like CDs or DVDs. And, you can always find an older version of a file if you need it.
  • Advanced file restoration
If you ever need to restore a file that's been lost or damaged, the Restore pane in Backup*3 makes it easy to find the backup you're looking for. Backup 3 also comes with new restore options such as restoring to an alternate location and restoring only files that are missing from their original location.
  • Better backup management
Keep your backups on track with the new main window summary of all of your backup plans. You can see the status of recent backups and the next scheduled backup. If you need to know more, the History pane tracks detailed information about each backup you that occurs. In addition, anytime you miss a backup because your computer is asleep or turned off, Backup 3 prompts you to run the missed backups when your computer is available again.
  • Shared backup to iDisk
You can now back up more than one Macintosh computer to the same iDisk. If you need to restore data, you can restore files to either Mac or to a different location entirely.* *

If you use Delicious Library, you can now easily back up your collection through Backup 3 with the Delicious Library QuickPick plug-in...
