I do love B&W shots, although sometimes I'm not sure whether it's actually the qualities of the photograph (framing, composition, etc) or more the nostalgia aspect of it. I feel like almost every color photograph I take seemingly ends up looking better in B&W, which is kind of weird. I think it's an interesting discussion to have whether color or B&W "masks" or can make up for a photographer's lack of skills. I originally thought that was the case for color, but as I grow older, I'm not so sure.
For example, the shot PB took of the leaf a few posts above...I don't find it that interesting to be honest. I'm imagining if it was color, it would in fact, look quite ordinary. But make it B&W and all of a sudden, whoa, it's kind of neat. Sometimes, I look at B&W shots, and I think about what the photographer was trying to hide, not what he should be trying to expose. (Because I've done the same thing with my bad shots from time to time.) You know? Sorry for the rant. |

Very nice, much better than the one in the challenge thread IMO.

Unfortunately, this shot doesn't comply with the "no heavy photoshopping" requirement. Without fiddling with ColorEfex, the impact of the shot is not as strong.

I do not consider rendering the shot into black and white and playing with the r/g/b channels to violate the rules. This is just basic black and white processing, which is every bit as valid as colour.

I'd be willing to say that more than a black and white conversion took place. I can see a few of the effects applied by looking closely.

As this shot is now in flickr explore, I switch my entry for the photo challenge to the color version, so you can compare...

Nice shot. How do you find the 14-42 PZ? Been thinking of getting one for my GF2.

I just bought a step-up ring from 37mm to 43, so I can mount some accessory which I had bought for my first digital camera (a Kodak DC4800) and which was sitting in the back of a drawer since I switched to a DSLR. GSpotter, I'd be very interested in your thoughts generally about the GF3, if you get a chance, in the AN Camera Forum.

Moment in Time
Not quite black and white - sepia with most, but not all, of the colour bleached out - but close enough to black and white that it works best in this thread. The picture is of my daughter and my two young nieces at their grandfather's 80th birthday party this past summer. When there's an eel in the lake that's as long as a snake that's a moray. |

I like that one, Chinney. I think the paper aeroplanes clinch it, though that leading Concorde seems to be in an unrecoverable flat spin. Great stuff.
(It helps that your family has the good taste to dress photogenically. Fluorescent tracksuits and Nikes don’t have the same timeless appeal.) |

I visited a museum with old farming equipment today.
