As nice as the charity concert will be -and God Bless 'em for it- the selfish Floyd fan in me would rather see another great studio album. The concert will be wildly successful either way, given who's already attending.
God knows the times are filled with enough politically-charged happenings to make a good Floyd album. Indeed a new Floyd album would be one of the few things that could [salvage some part of 2005] / put the earth back on it's axis.... ...the loss of Jack; "healthy filter" cigarettes (because we need to encourage smokers to keep it up); Apple's "switch"; Johnny Carson; actual debates on what's acceptable torture and what isn't; and still no sign there will ever be professional hockey in this country again... this whole year is becoming a God-awful mess. ...into the light of a dark black night. This is HUGE.
How cool is Bob Geldof for getting this shit off the ground?! The guy's speech on Jonathan Ross's TV show last night brought tears to my eyes, and it only lasted five minutes. |

We need a new Floyd song about how everybody is being a pussy, blindly supporting the "war on terror", which is a very ambiguous thing. According to the patriot act, even an activity as benign as wardriving could be considered terrorist activity. The government is much too quick to label somebody a "terrorist"... holy shit
holy shit holy shit holy shit I saw them spaced only a month or two apart back in the 80's when Roger Waters was touring with Radio KAOS and Gilmour was leading Floyd with the 'Delicate Sound of Thunder'. I never, ever, ever, ever expected to see them get back together. Perspective is a good thing. |

It's interesting that you are all talking about Floyd in the context of Waters influenced albums...
What you need to do is go and get a copy of Amused to Death by Roger Waters and listen very carefully to the words.. He has already done the album you are all talking about, and it is the best album of all time. IMHO. Good call scratt. Found and added to my Amazon cart. Looks pretty solid based on the reviews. I could use an influx of new tunes, even if they are sort of old.

Hi Moogs... Glad to be of service..
It's actually quite modern in terms of subject matter. If you liked Final Cut, The Wall, Pros and Cons you will love this. But it is also more contemporary and talks about the middle east etc... Personally, it is my all time accross the board favorite album ever by anyone. Period. In fact, after the Bill Hubbard speech, the intro music / scene? (It's hard to know which is the best way to describe a Waters album) which has a monkey sitting on a piece of rock trying to figure out what life is all about always makes me tear up... One of the funniest lyrics in it, in a track called "It's a Miracle" actually refers to a keyboard lid smashing down and breaking "his f&*kin' fingers", and that refers to Andrew Lloyd Webber apparently... Always brings a grin!! Enjoy.. 'Remember, measure life by the moments that take your breath away, not by how many breaths you take' Extreme Sports Cafe | ESC's blog | scratt's blog | @thescratt |

I've gotta say, this ranks up there with the greatest band reunitings of all time.
It *MIGHT* be topped by the Beatles, but even that is in doubt. Wow. |

Sid would just be sad and freaky.
My favorite Roger Waters album is 'The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking'. Probably my favorite concept album after 'The Wall' and tied with 'The Final Cut'. Great tunes, lots of emotion and tons of theater. Jack Palance even makes an audio appearance~ |

On a decent system you can almost hear the bits of weed and tobacco burn individually, and his throat constrict slightly as he draws in the smoke! Awesome. It's the atmospherics in Water's stuff that just adds that final touch of genius... Love it! It was The Division Bell tour. I was never a fan of Gilmour's vocals, so I missed it on purpose. Even adults can be dumb sometimes.

The last Floyd concert I saw was in the Fall of 1987...I remember very little of that year.

their concerts are pretty long affairs; you had no choice but to inhale the whole time.

I took this thread to mean that they were going to play "another" show in Norway.
Yeah, I saw Live 8 on the BBC while I was in London. And I have the lovely AVI file from Bit Torrent!! The dead link left me guessing as to the drift of this thread.... Different Strokes, for Different Folks. And So On and So On, and Skoobie Doobie Doobie. |
