I used to be able to do this in OS9 but it doesn't seem possible in Tiger.
I have searched some help sites on-line but they all refer to OS9. Say it ain't so... |

There are options but they're all stupid, if you ask me. You are going to be one unhappy camper if you try to use OS X like you used OS 9. They're completely different. Make an effort to do things the OS X way and you'll be much happier. If it's not red and showing substantial musculature, you're wearing it wrong. |

Yeah, that's kind of what the dock is meant to accomplish. People used to stuff all their frequently-used applications either in the Apple menu or *shudder* as aliases on the desktop. With the dock you can throw your most used apps in the main area, and also drag your Applications folder to the area next to the trash so when you right-click on it, you're presented with a list of all your applications. This applies to any folder you like, so you can also put a bunch of aliases to your most used stuff in your Favorites folder and then put that in the dock.
If you absolutely need to put stuff in the Apple menu and will accept no other way around it, then you should consider FruitMenu, a hack that lets you modify the contents of the Apple menu (and of contextual menus). |
